Screening of Bruno Dumont Hadewijch

February 14, 2013 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

The Tournées Festival is a program of FACE (French American Cultural Exchange), in partnership with the Cultural Services of the French Embassy, which aims to bring contemporary French cinema to American college and university campuses. This Friday’s movie is about 20-year-old Céline, who is expelled from a nunnery for her over-zealous faith. She returns to the secular world where she meets rebellious teenager Yassine and his older brother, Nassir, whose religious fervour mirror’s Céline’s own.Hadewijch explores the relentless pursuit of faith in both Christianity and Islam—and what drives certain believers to acts of extreme violence.

Presented by the Department of Romance Languages at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
