TransAtlantic Masters Program Alumni Panel

Please mark your calendars and save the date for the next TransAtlantic Masters Program alumni panel! We are planning to hold our panel discussion on the evening of Friday, October 4th. These alumni events provide an excellent opportunity to find out more about TAM and to meet program graduates, students, administrators, and professors. Four alumni will talk about their experience in the program and their career trajectory. Panelist bios are included under the RSVP form below. Refreshments will be served. Please RSVP. Panelists

Brian Beach: TAM Class of 2005
Brian works as a Senior Research Fellow at the International Longevity Centre UK (ILC) in London, using evidence to inform policymaking in the context of longevity and demographic change. He completed the TAM Program in Siena, Italy. Through the program, he gained extensive knowledge on European Union institutions, the process of European integration, and European welfare states. After TAM, Brian worked for three years in the Office of International Affairs at AARP in Washington, DC. There, he helped organize a number of international dialogues and conferences in North America, Europe, and Asia to address the opportunities and challenges of global ageing. After his time in DC, Brian undertook his doctoral work at Oxford University with the Oxford Institute of Population Ageing before joining ILC.

Michelle Goryn: TAM Class of 2005
Michelle is a 2005 TAM graduate who studied overseas in Paris. She earned her undergraduate degree in Spanish, French, and Government from Georgetown University. At this point in her career, Michelle works in freelance public-policy program management, writing, and editing and has been on contract with UNC’s Innovate Carolina office for several years now. In addition, she works for SRI International as a technical editor. Michelle has served as Chair of the Board of the Raleigh/Wake Partnership to End Homelessness and has recently joined the TAM Alumni External Advisory Board.

Kate Throneburg: TAM Class of 2018
Kate is Project Manager and Technical Writer at American Engineering Group (AEG) International based in Charlotte. She served as the Regional Get Out the Vote Director for the Break the Majority statewide legislative campaign and project manager for two large events affiliated with the United Nations following her graduation from TAM in 2018. While in TAM she studied overseas in Barcelona and spent several months in Lisbon, Portugal interning at the U.S. Embassy, planning a UN sustainable energy forum, and studying Portuguese. Prior to graduate school, Kate served as Executive Assistant to U.S. Congressman David E. Price (NC-04) in his DC office. She received her undergraduate degree from UNC-CH with majors in History and Psychology.

Joy Toro: TAM Class of 2004
Joy Toro completed her BA in Political Science and Romance Languages from UNC-CH in 2001. Upon graduation, she did a year-long teaching program in Costa Rica with WorldTeach. As a TAM student, Joy studied in Madrid and Bath and interned with Amnesty International. Upon graduation in 2004, Joy completed a three-month French course in Québec, Canada, prior to working as a consultant for a public health development program in Geneva, Switzerland. Since returning to the US in 2006, Joy has obtained a graduate certificate in public health and a Master’s degree in Social Work. She has held various positions in the global public health and clinical research fields working in many countries around the world. Joy is now the Sr. Clinical Strategy Director for FHI Clinical, a clinical research organization managing complex clinical trials in resource-limited settings.
