La Religieuse (The Nun) | Tournées Film Festival

French New Wave director Jacques Rivette’s film based on a novel by Denis Diderot. Paris, 1750s. Forced to take vows, rebellious nun (Anna Karina) in shunned, tortured & exorcised by her community; at last she finds relief in a fun-loving, sorority-like convent, where she becomes the latest plaything of Mother Superior Liselotte Pulver.
This screening is part of the Tournées Film Festival, organized by the UNC Department of Romance Studies in collaboration with the UNC Departments of Art and Art History and Comparative Literature, and the UNC Center for European Studies. The screening is free and open to the public, with English subtitles.
