Are you a UNC faculty member? Read a message from Center for Global Initiatives Director Niklaus Steiner to learn how you can serve on the 2018 Fulbright Interview Committee for UNC.

Dear colleagues,

The Fulbright U.S. Student program is a great way for UNC students to have a global experience. Given your expertise in Europe, I write to invite you to participate in the Campus Interview Committee (and thank you if you have already signed up!). As you may know, the Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.

Interviews take place September 25th through October 5th. The purpose of the interview process is to evaluate the applicant and their application materials and to give constructive criticism to the applicant to help them with the final revisions prior to the National Deadline. Participation in the campus review committee entails the following:

  • Interviewing 4-5 candidates for a period of 20 minutes each (application material, exact dates, times, location of the interview, and sample interview questions will be sent a few days after the campus deadline of September 20, 2018, unless the weather forces us to delay it); and
  • Completing a one-page Campus Committee Evaluation Form for each of the 4-5 candidates (to be submitted 3 days after the interview(s), but no later than October 9th).

Please browse through the available dates and time slots to sign-up for 1 meeting time that works best for you. It would be great if you could do this by September 14, 2018.

Please know that over the years this program has benefited many Carolina students. Last year alone, UNC put forward 23 semi-finalists and 16 finalists. Our students’ success in this highly competitive national competition is due, in large part, to the time, expertise, and effort of reviewers. To ensure that we have another successful year, please consider participating in the campus interview process.

Many thanks for considering this important request, and please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions.

Niklaus
