This week officials from the University of Bremen (UB) in Germany made a visit to UNC-CH.
The Center for European Studies was very pleased to welcome Prof. Dr. Yasemin Karakasoglu,
UB Vice Rector for Intercultural and International Affairs, Dr. Annette Lang, Director of UB’s International
Office, Dr. Christian Peters, Managing Director of the Bremen International Graduate School of Social Sciences
(BIGSSS), and Judith Lucas, Senior Coordinator in the BIGSSS Deans’ Office. CES has worked
closely with UB faculty and administrators for a number of years. Our multifaceted partnership includes
an important link to the Center’s TransAtlantic Masters (TAM) Program. Students in TAM’s European
Governance track have the option to spend up to a year in Bremen pursuing coursework and internships.
While on campus UB officials met with CES Director, Professor John Stephens, had lunch with TAM students
destined for Bremen, and gave a presentation about available funding for further research at
BIGSSS. The Bremen delegation also met with faculty members involved in UNC-UB projects at the
Center for Galapagos Studies and the Department of Marine Sciences. CES appreciates such opportunities
to deepen and strengthen its partnerships with overseas institutions and thanks the Bremen visitors for
their continued collaborations.
