THE INTEGRATION OF MUSLIMS IN EUROPE: HOW IMPORTANT IS RELIGION?

March 8, 2017 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm

Rahsaan D. Maxwell, Associate Professor of Political Science

The integration of Muslims is one of the most challenging issues in Europe today, with some skeptics proposing that Muslims’ conservative religious values and practices are incompatible with progressive and secular norms in contemporary Europe. This talk will question those assumptions by exploring the extent to which difficulties in Muslim integration reflect common challenges among immigrant communities of any type, and explore the ramifications of thinking about the Muslim community in either religious or immigration terms.
